Tessa Mars
b. 1985, Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Multidisciplinary artist.
My body of work presents my efforts engage and reconnect with a Haitian perspective of the world. I’m interested in the intellectual and emotional legacies of the Haitian revolution and how they continue to shape our relationship to land/not-land and our understandings of resistance, survival, adaptability, fight and creation. I’m inspired by Haitian spirituality, myths and legends, our unfolding histories and my own experiences as a queer Haitian woman and as a migrant.
Through the creative gesture, I engage the power of a good story to repair, heal, transmute and connect. My purpose is to find for myself and share with others embodied paths and visions to more serene futures.
